On Day 2 in NYC, my cousin and I ordered room service to my room at Dream Downtown and then walked to The High Line to take in a view of the city. The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side and it is a peaceful area where you can stroll. After hanging out at The High Line for awhile drinking Blue Bottle coffee, we walked to Magnolia bakery to taste test the cupcakes and enjoyed them in a local park [chocolate with sprinkles won!]. If you are as obsessed with Sex and the City as I am you remember Magnolia from the episode where Carrie and Miranda ate the cupcakes out front of the bakery. They are SO good and have a few locations in the city, a must try if you are visiting.
We brunched and lunched the day away, then we got ready back at Dream [which included dancing on the bed and self pictures of course] before heading to Le Poisson Rouge to check out Duke Dumont, a DJ who has the hit Need U [listen to it here]. We ended up standing right next to him on the stage and danced in front of a crowd of hundreds…a great end to my second day in the city.
I have to say one of the best things about my trip was spending quality time with my cousin [who basically moved into my hotel room for the weekend] and experiencing NYC life like a local. On Sunday, we met up with some of her girlfriends and drank our way through the city ending up at a karaoke bar where you get a private room to sing in as they serve you drinks, which lasted well into the night. After this weekend, I finally understand why they call it the city that never sleeps. The next morning we could barely get out of bed in time for check out and decided to lay in the grass at Central Park before I had to leave to catch my flight. My feet were so beat up from the weekend I had to wear my Converse on the last day to give them a rest. As I rode away from my cousin in a cab, I looked back and thought; even though we are miles apart, we’ll always have New York.
